Your daughter’s academic functioning has likely been impacted by her anxiety. Many girls at Cascade Academy, although very bright, have struggled academically due to test anxiety, perfectionism, or avoiding school all-together. Some students have made academics a priority over all other areas of their lives and struggle to maintain balance between academics, relationships, and recreation.
Your daughter will be in extremely small (6-9 students), teacher-led classes in a school program specifically designed for anxious learners, your daughter will have the support and instruction she needs to help alleviate her stress and anxiety in academic environments. The academic and treatment teams will work with you and your daughter to understand her unique needs and create an individualized academic plan. This will include an academic assessment, college prep curriculum, credit recovery, self-advocacy training, executive functioning support and accommodations as needed. Students with 504 or IEP plans will receive specific support according to their individual needs.
There are several advantages to having school in the afternoon. The adolescent brain is more ready to learn later in the day and certified teachers are available in the evenings after teaching at the local schools. Additionally, by scheduling time specifically for therapy, activities, and school separate from each other, these important elements of your daughter’s treatment do not compete for time. Your daughter will not be pulled out of class for therapy and vice versa.
